Happy birthday to me…happy birthday to meeee….
The Live and Loud! Show is 10 years old this month! It all started back in October 2012 when I started repairing and restoring live recordings and broadcasting them on a now defunct German internet radio station called Radio Happy. The website show archive didn’t exist then - so to hear them you either listened live or waited for a temporary download link to grab the show before the link disappeared!
The show archive site was created in 2014 and has been running with every show repaired and restored, available to download 24 hours a day ever since, so YOU don’t have to go and buy sub standard inferior bootlegs. While the site itself is free to host (thank you, google inc.), the file hosting and domain names are not. So any donations to costs are always welcome, via ko-fi - the link is below. You can also get files back in return for your donation (more info on that HERE).
So anyway, here are the first 2 bands I ever did - Depeche Mode and OMD. The OMD show was actually show #2 and was broadcast 10 years ago this very night. How time flies.
Depeche Mode
This was the first ever show, broadcast in early October 2012 for the first time. Originally from a tape I had recorded myself when it was first broadcast in 1983/84, came this first ever restoration. I revisited it in 2018 and improved it - download it here: Depeche Mode, live from Hammersmith Odeon, London UK, October 1983.
Since then I’ve repaired and restored 10 gigs from Depeche Mode, and a radio session. You can find them all (and download them of course) right HERE.
OMD
The second show, broadcast 10 years ago tonight was from OMD’s 1983 Dazzle Ships tour. I revisited this one as well, in 2019, and made it sound a lot better. You can of course download it from here: OMD, live from Glasgow Apollo, UK, April 1983.
Since then in total I’ve repaired and restored 6 gigs from OMD. You can find them all (and download them of course) right HERE.
Since Then…
10 years later and I’ve now repaired and restored 182 gigs and 10 radio sessions across a variety of genres; from 1956 (Elvis Presley) to 2012 (Kraftwerk). Not all are still downloadable - occasionally a record company puts out the original recording themselves and I take mine down (even if sometimes they don’t clean them up well). The page itself will stay up though.
I guess around 18 a year on average isn’t bad going. Still plenty plenty plenty to come! I reckon I’ll still be doing these until I either die or go deaf - whichever comes first! Hopefully neither will happen for a while yet, at least, as I have hundreds more to get through… So stay tuned - and if you haven’t already, please subscribe to the newsletter (ie this thing) - it’s free!
Cheers!
Phil
