Hi all

Here’s your weekend update with news on what’s coming next and some shows from years gone by you might have missed.

Coming Next

The next show will be a restoration of the original live FM broadcast of Jean Michel Jarre’s full Rendezvous Houston concert from 1986. Excerpts were broadcast here in the UK, an official live album which purportedly had tracks from this concert and a performance in Lyon from the same year was released - but this will be the first time the actual concert has been made widely available, as it was played on the night.

This is one I have had planned for quite a long time - but finding a suitable source recording has proved something of a challenge! However, thanks to a kind collector recently I was able to swap some recordings with, I now have one and for the last few days have been putting in a lot of work on it (and still some to go!) in order to fix it up and make it better to listen to.

That will be coming up, in restored, remastered stereo this coming Friday. In the meantime, all the other Jarre live shows (and TV Ballet soundtrack!) can be seen and heard HERE.

Shows You May Have Missed

To finish with this time, some gigs uploaded this week in previous years that are well worth revisiting (or catching for the first time if you missed them back then).

The most recent was this restoration in 2020 of a pretty poor quality recording of Japan, live in Newcastle in 1978. This one was actually done as a result of a request from Rob Dean, Japan’s guitarist. You can click on the image below to download mono and simulated stereo versions of this restoration:

Back this week in 2017, I restored and uploaded what turned out to be one of the most popular shows on the site for a long long time - Crowded House, live from Switzerland in 1991. A great show with lots of banter from Neil Finn and the boys on stage, and great songs in a superb stereo recording. Listen to that here:

From the year before - 2016 - comes this awesome, energetic live set from a much overlooked band these days - The Runaways. A really great sounding stereo set, well worth checking out, here:
