Girl POWER! (No, Not Them...)
Hi All
The Next Show
The next live restoration is close to completion and will be up online in the next few days. In the last newsletter I hinted that it might be a band with a connection to the LAST band featured, Fun Boy Three…. Well, I can tell you now that the next band to be featured will be all girl power pop band, The Go-Go’s, in an exciting gig from 1981.
How were THEY linked to Fun Boy Three? They supported The Specials on tour in 1980 and their frontman Terry Hall, who went on to front Fun Boy Three, got rather close to Jane Wiedlin from The Go-Go’s for a while (!) and they eventually co-wrote Our Lips Are Sealed which both bands recorded and had a hit with.
Originally recorded for stereo FM radio this is polishing up really nicely and sounding great. This will be coming up in a few days, so look out for the email letting you know.
(I hope nobody read the headline of this newsletter and was looking actually forward to a gig from The Spice Girls…)
And Yet MORE Girl Power…
If you like female rock bands (and why not?!), here’s a little extra for you! As an aside, the Go-Go’s biggest hit was We Got The Beat, which spent 3 weeks at number 2 in the US charts back in 1981. They were kept off the top of the charts by…I Love Rock’n’Roll by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts! Joan Jett was previously in an all girl band herself - The Runaways. And it just so happens that back in 2016, Live and Loud! Show 75 was…a great restored show by The Runaways from 1976 and the very epitome of “girl power”. How about that for a smooth link?! If you missed that one, you can go to the site page and grab it for free by clicking on the image below:
That’s all for now. I’ll be back in a few days with the Go-Gos link. Have a great week!
