Happy New Year to you all. Starting the year a LITTLE behind schedule thanks to being ill and out of action over Xmas and the new year. But after restoring a David Byrne gig recording for a client last week, I am now slowly (and carefully) making a start on the first show of 2024 for liveandloudshows.com.
And if you’re a Kraftwerk fan, a fan of live electronica in general, or even a fan of early Trance and dance music, you are in for a TREAT this time… I’m restoring what was originally a fairly clear audience recording from The Ritz in New York, of Kraftwerk on their Computer World tour of 1981. Fair to say Ralf, Karl, Wolfgang and Florian were having a good time that night - some very entertaining versions of songs you might have heard many times but never quite like this!
Several times during the gig, they just cut loose and jam a bit (Autobahn and Showroom Dummies in particular are highlights for me so far). You can hear during the gig, and on the final track of the evening in particular, It’s More Fun To Compute, just where the New York dance music scene were getting their ideas from. If ever a gig bridges the gap between old Kraftwerk and dance music, it is this one.
They played 2 nights in New York on that tour. To whet your appetite, here’s a photo I found online from 1 of those nights!
As I type, I’m listening to the show for faults (clicks/gaps/distortions) and fixing those before beginning the restoration and remastering phases. Those will be completed over the next few days. The show should be finished, uploaded and available before next weekend; as always, subscribers to the newsletter will be the first to know when it’s available.
Until then…cheers all!
Phil
