Hi all
Growing up in the late 70s/early 80s my favourite band was Ultravox - both incarnations; the more commercially successful version fronted by Midge Ure and the earlier version (often referred to as “Ultravox!”) fronted by John Foxx.
As I got older I occasionally thought about “I wonder how I’ll feel when 1 of them dies”. Last week I found out when it was released that Chris Cross, Ultravox’s bass player across both incarnations, and the first member of the band John Foxx recruited to the band in 1973/74, passed away in March, aged 71.

Pretty gutted was the answer. But I guess as music lovers, we can all relate. We all grow up with musical heroes who, as we get older, have been around all our lives. Until they aren’t.
I’m not going to make this self indulgent, this is just a preamble to say that after hearing of his death, I changed tack on the next live restoration and since then have been working on something by Ultravox! (with the exclamation mark). A really nice early live show, recorded in stereo and originally broadcast on radio. Bootlegged back in the day but the vinyl bootleg never had all the tracks on it. This does. Taking a lot of work but I’m hoping to get this on the site by the end of the coming week. And it will sound bloody awesome.
Coming soon, to liveandloudshows.com, Ultravox! live from 1977.
